Job Summary:

The Carpenter will be responsible for the creation, assembly, restoration, and finishing of wooden furniture, cupboards, and custom woodwork pieces. The ideal candidate must be able to take initiative in the workshop, work independently, and ensure high-quality craftsmanship across all projects. Experience with both hardwoods and softwoods, as well as familiarity with modern woodworking machinery and tools, is essential. The candidate must also be able to read, understand, and interpret technical drawings accurately.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Construct, assemble, and repair furniture, cupboards, and other wooden fixtures.
2. Work with various types of wood, including hardwoods and melamine, ensuring precision and quality.
3. Perform restoration work on existing wooden furniture and fittings.
4. Read, understand, and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
5. Operate woodworking machinery such as desk saws, sanding machines, and spray-painting equipment.
6. Measure, cut, and shape wood according to project specifications.
7. Ensure correct finishing and detailing of all wood products.
8. Maintain workshop cleanliness, organisation, and safety standards.
9. Collaborate with management and other team members to meet production deadlines.
10. Take control of assigned projects and manage workflow efficiently.

Qualifications and Skills:

Qualifications:

1. Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
2. Relevant trade certificate or carpentry qualification (advantageous but not essential).

Skills:

1. Skilled in the use of woodworking machinery (desk saw, sanding machine, spray-painting equipment, etc.)
2. Strong knowledge of different wood types, including hardwoods.
3. Competent in furniture making, cupboard installation, and restoration work.
4. Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical drawings and measurements.
5. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
6. Good time management and organisational abilities.
7. Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.

Experience:

1. Minimum of 3 years’ proven experience in carpentry or woodworking.
2. Demonstrated experience in furniture or cupboard manufacturing, as well as wood restoration.
3. Experience with hardwoods is essential (not limited to melamine work).
4. Proven experience in interpreting technical drawings is required.
