Job Purpose The Store Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and daily operations of the Family Pet Centre Fourways store. You will drive sales, ensure outstanding customer service, manage inventory and merchandising, lead and develop a team of passionate pet enthusiasts, and maintain high standards of store presentation, animal care (where applicable), and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide strong leadership and direction to the store team, including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, scheduling, and motivation of staff.
  2. Achieve and exceed monthly/annual sales targets, KPIs, and profitability goals through effective sales strategies, upselling, promotions, and customer relationship building.
  3. Deliver world-class customer service – greet customers warmly, offer expert product and pet care advice, handle queries/complaints professionally, and build long-term loyalty.
  4. Oversee stock management: monitor inventory levels, place orders, manage deliveries, conduct stock counts, minimise shrinkage, and ensure product availability.
  5. Maintain exceptional store standards – visual merchandising, clean and organised displays, accurate pricing/signage, and compliance with health, safety, and company policies.
  6. Manage daily cash-up, banking, financial reporting, and expense control to support strong financial performance.
  7. Drive in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to increase foot traffic and sales.
  8. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation (including animal welfare, health & safety, and labour laws).
  9. Collaborate with head office, suppliers, and the in-house vet clinic team (where present) to optimise operations.
  10. Monitor competitor activity and market trends in the pet industry to identify opportunities.


Vereistes
  1. Fluent in Afrikaans - Non negotiable
  2. Minimum 3–5 years' experience in retail management, preferably in pet retail, specialty retail, or a fast-moving consumer goods environment.
  3. Proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing profitable store operations.
  4. Passion for animals and strong knowledge of pet products, nutrition, care, and accessories (across multiple pet types).
  5. Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and develop a team.
  6. Strong customer service orientation and communication skills (English essential; Afrikaans and/or other local languages advantageous).
  7. Numeracy and financial acumen – comfortable with budgets, P&L, stock control, and reporting.
  8. Computer literate (MS Office, POS systems, retail software).
  9. Ability to work retail hours, including weekends, public holidays, and occasional late shifts.
  10. Matric/Grade 12 certificate (essential); a relevant diploma or degree in retail management, business, or animal-related field is advantageous.
