Logistics Manager – Fresh Produce
Responsibilities & Duties
1. Transport & Distribution Management
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily transport and delivery of fresh produce.
- Ensure on-time deliveries to customers, markets, and distribution centers.
- Manage delivery routes, schedules, and load planning.
- Handle urgent, short-notice, or last-minute delivery changes.
2. Cold Chain Management
- Ensure cold chain integrity from dispatch to delivery.
- Monitor vehicle temperatures and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
- Address temperature breaches and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure vehicles are pre-cooled and suitable for fresh produce transport.
3. Fleet & Vehicle Management
- Manage company-owned and contracted vehicles.
- Maintain vehicle compliance: registration, insurance, permits, and service schedules.
- Ensure vehicles are clean, sanitized, and fit for transporting fresh produce.
- Keep records of vehicle contracts and service providers.
4. Driver Management
- Supervise drivers and transport contractors.
- Allocate drivers to routes and shifts.
- Ensure drivers follow delivery procedures, hygiene, and safety requirements.
- Monitor driver performance, attendance, and compliance.
- Handle driver issues, incidents, and disciplinary matters.
5. Dispatch & Loading Operations
- Coordinate loading and dispatch with warehouse and production teams.
- Ensure correct picking, palletizing, labeling, and documentation.
- Verify loads against delivery notes and invoices.
- Ensure safe loading practices and correct weight distribution.
6. Stock & Order Coordination
- Work closely with sales, warehouse, and production teams to align orders and deliveries.
- Communicate shortages, delays, or order changes promptly.
- Ensure correct handling of returns, rejected deliveries, and damages.
7. Compliance, Food Safety & Legal Requirements
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations (HACCP, cold chain standards).
- Ensure transport compliance with road safety and labor laws.
- Maintain transport and delivery records for audits and inspections.
8. Cost Control & Efficiency
- Manage transport costs and budgets.
- Optimize routes and loads to reduce fuel and labor costs.
- Monitor vehicle usage and contractor performance.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.
9. Incident & Risk Management
- Manage delivery incidents, vehicle breakdowns, and accidents.
- Investigate damages, delays, or losses.
- Implement preventative measures to reduce future risks.
10. Reporting & Communication
- Prepare daily and weekly logistics reports.
- Maintain records of deliveries, temperature logs, and incidents.
- Provide clear handover information to operations and management teams.
- Act as key point of contact for logistics-related queries.
