Solidarity proceeds with legal action against Tshwane over Mettler’s unlawful suspension
Solidarity has instructed its legal team this morning to finalise court papers challenging the City of Tshwane’s decision to suspend the metro’s City Manager, Johann Mettler.
According to Anton van der Bijl, Deputy Chief Executive of Solidarity, the organisation has no alternative but to challenge in court the injustice being committed by the City of Tshwane against Mettler, a Solidarity member.
“The series of decisions taken by the metro that culminated in Mr Mettler’s suspension is simply unlawful, irrational, and unconstitutional.
“Our warnings that legal action would follow unless the metro immediately reconsidered its decision regarding Mr Mettler have clearly fallen on deaf ears. We will therefore serve court papers on the City of Tshwane within the next 24 hours,” said Van der Bijl.
Solidarity regards Mr Mettler’s suspension on 9 July and the metro’s refusal to reverse that decision as a politically motivated move. The organisation is confident that this injustice will be exposed in court.
